As Air fryers continue to be among the most in-demand small kitchen appliance, you might be wondering if its finally time to get your own and experience what the fuss is all about.
With the alert level probably going down again next month, people are going to get even busier and busier, leaving less and less time to prepare food for their families. That might be a challenge for some after being used to cooking meals for the past couple of years.
But you don’t have to sacrifice home cooked meals, all you need is an appliance that would help you cook more efficiently–like an air fryer.
I first read about this new brand called Gaabor while browsing through my news feed. Gaabor kitchen appliances is one of the leading retailers of the online market of small household electrical appliances in Europe. It was founded in 1987 by Gabor Lorenz, a doer and entrepreneur in the German kitchen stove industry. Driven by the “Generation-Z” demands, and specialized in the R&D and production of high-quality household appliances, it intends to provide the products with quality of craftsmanship from Germany.
In recent years, the users of Gaabor have already covered many countries and regions in South America, North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, etc. by virtue of its global business expansion. The small kitchen appliances of Gaabor with more than ten categories of SKUs, are the spearheads that have already entered the global retailing market. At present, Gaabor has already had multiple best-selling single products in terms of its air fryer series and electric rice cooker series.
With more than 30 years of experience in the kitchen appliance industry, Gaabor finally entered the Asian market last year bringing with it, its best-selling product–the Gaabor smoke-free air fryer.
Who doesn’t love fried crispy food?
But I do hate the oil, bad cholesterol and the guilt that goes with it.
Since we got our air fryer, however, we’ve been able to enjoy french fries, lechon kawali and even crispy pata without having to immediately reach for our blood pressure machine.
I decided to get the 5L Gaabor Air fryer, with Touch Screen from Shopee as our older one had knobs, so I wanted to try something new.
Opening the box, it was packed securely with styrofoam and protected by a plastic bag to prevent scratches. It includes the air frying unit, the removable rack, basket tray, and a user manual. There are some rubber pegs on the bottom of the draining rack, which you should always check as it could detach and easily fall.
It has a plastic body with a shiny dark gray finish unlike the usual black air fryers. The neat and sleek design makes it perfect to put on any kitchen countertops.
As it was my first time to try touch screen controls, so I checked the manual first for instructions–unfortunately there was no quick guide. Thankfully, you wont need it as it is very easy to operate. All you have to do is plug it in, and the display will light up. The touch screen digital control panel is very convenient to use, you can start cooking with just a few touches of buttons.
All you have to do is adjust the temperature and press it again to set the timer by using the are + and – buttons on the either side.
For our initial test we tried cooking some hotdogs and thinly sliced pork which was supposed to be for our samgyup. I don’t suggest you cook it straight from the freezer, instead let it thaw a bit. Same thing with the sliced pork.
Another common mistake when using an air fryer is not preheating it. A good 3 to 5 minutes would be enough just to get it ready. I then placed the hotdogs inside, brushing just a bit of cooking oil so it wouldn’t dry out and set the timer for 6 minutes. After 3 minutes I checked on it and rolled it a bit around. You’ll hear a beep when the timer ends and my hotdogs were ready.
Next was the sliced pork. I set a timer for 8 minutes. This one was still a bit frozen so it took a bit longer to cook. I checked again at the 3 minute mark and I could see all the oil dripping from it. When the timer ended the pork was already golden brown, I could’ve made it even crisper by adding a few minutes but I was already ok with it.
I checked the non-stick basket and there must have been at least 5 tablespoons of oil drained. Talk about unhealthy!

The 5L capacity is just right for a small family and you can fry dishes without the messy oil-splatter and heat and risks of exposure to fire or hot oil.
In all, I was quite happy with the Gaabor Air Fryer and am excited to try cooking crispy pata, fried chicken or maybe liempo chips next. I liked the design, the basket is light and easily removable for quick cleaning and the build looks like it could last awhile. The touch screen control also makes it easy to see how much time is left so you could check out what you are cooking.
