HP’s latest research uncovers a compelling narrative: while 56% of millennials (ages 27-42) and 55% of Gen X (ages 43-58) advocate for business technology adoption, there’s a clear divide.
Gen Z entrepreneurs, surprisingly alongside baby boomers, show heightened tech skepticism in Asian markets like Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Notably, 77% of these microbusinesses believe technology is their silver bullet against business challenges. However, 69% of baby boomers and 57% of Gen Z aren’t convinced about technology’s ROI.
The Philippines paints a similar picture, with Gen Z and baby boomers skeptical, while over half of the millennials see technology as a game-changer.Kantar’s comprehensive study, commissioned by HP, sought insights from around 1,200 Southeast Asian microbusiness owners.
The conclusion?
For microbusinesses to flourish, Gen X and millennials must quell prevalent tech apprehensions. A staggering 70% express concerns over technology’s complexity and security.

Despite prevailing doubts, tangible benefits drive tech adoption. For instance, 85% of the region’s micro businesses utilize smartphones and tablets, and 59% rely on printers.
