After successfully disrupting the smartphone market en route to its current position as the top selling brand in the Philippines for the first half of 2021, realme Philippines now set its sights on making a statement in the laptop market.
Last week, it finally unveiled the realme book—a slim and light laptop powered by the latest Intel 11th Gen processors.
The Technivore was one of the lucky ones to get first dibs on a unit and I am excited to share with you our unboxing and first thoughts of this sleek, stylish device and the 9 features that makes our inner technivore roaring in anticipation.
WHAT’S IN THE BOX?
The realme Book comes in a fairly large white box with a photo of the realme Book on the front and a list of its specs plus some regulatory information on the back. The packaging is nice to display in your shelf and the box is sturdy enough if you want to reuse it.
Lifting the lid reveals the realme Book unit packed in a plastic sheet. Underneath are several compartments containing the 65W wall charger, USB-C to USB-C cable, and some paper documents.
BUILD, DESIGN, LAYOUT
From the moment it gently slid out of the plastic I was impressed.
They say you never forget your first, and it seems realme made sure this is a laptop you’ll remember with a sleek aluminum build for an effortlessly stylish exterior that matches an exceptionally powerful interior.
Ultra Light and ultra Portable the realme book weighs only 1.38 kg and just 14.9 mm thin easily earning a place in your backpack/bag. The smooth aluminum finish is achieved through precision crafting for an effortlessly stylish exterior that matches an exceptionally powerful interior. On the coverlid is the realme logo has a polished and reflective finish making it stand out depending on how the light hits it. Turning it over, underneath you’ll find several intake vents a speaker grill and raised rubber feet to make sure it gets proper ventilation and give the speakers a bit of room.
On the left side there’s a Thunderbolt port and one USB-C port while on opposite side you’ll find a USB Type-A port and the 3.5mm combo audio jack.
Despite its slim profile the realme book has a rigid frame to make sure that the laptop won’t easily flex. The realme book is available in two colors real blue and real gray both of which look good but opt for the blue one if you want something that’s easily recognizable.
Opening the laptop, you’ll be greeted by a large 14-inch 2K IPS LCD display with 3:2 aspect ratio, 400nits peak brightness, and 2160 x 1440 resolution. The bezels are very slim and just enough to house a 720 webcam on top and the realme logo on the bottom bezel. In case you are wondering it has a 90 percent screen-to-body ratio.
On the keyboard side you’ll find a power button that does double duty as a fingerprint scanner to quickly unlock your laptop instead of having to type in a password. As for the keyboard, it has chiclet style keys that has just enough travel to make it feel “clicky.” There’s a large trackpad for navigation and it supports Windows precision drivers.
The realme Book is running on Windows 10 and realme says it will be upgradeable to Windows 11.
